Sometimes You Have to Slow Down to Catch Up

HR Legal Search founder Kathryn Holt Richardson sat down with Law360 to talk about lawyer well-being — rest, community, and why the climb is easier when you don't do it alone.

After three decades placing attorneys — law firm partners, general counsel, and ambitious associates alike — HR Legal Search founder and principal Kathryn Holt Richardson has learned that the best placements aren't only about compensation. They're about where a lawyer will actually thrive. That's the conversation she brought to Law360 in a recent featured interview with reporter Aebra Coe. Below, in her own words, is the mission behind it.

I have placed hundreds of lawyers.

Law firm partners. General counsel. Ambitious associates. Attorneys at the top of our field.

And while I always aim to maximize compensation, I care just as much about placing my candidates where they'll thrive.

Over the years, and over thousands of coffees and conversations, I've recognized something else: a need among lawyers to embrace rest, community, and adventure. It can be lonely at the top. And rest facilitates the climb.

The truth is, sometimes you have to slow down to catch up.

"Being paid what you're worth is part of your well-being."

That's the mission I got to talk about in Law360. I'm grateful to Aebra Coe for taking the time to dialogue with me about something I care deeply about: Our well-being.

Because everyone deserves to love their job, and to be well while doing it. Especially lawyers.

"I've closed hundreds of deals. What I'm proudest of? The people I placed who are still thriving ten years later."
